Bismah confident preparation has Pakistan primed for T20 World Cup

Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof believes her side's series against Australia will prove the perfect preparation for next month's ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

While Pakistan have lost both T20I matches against Meg Lanning's side thus far, they have showed plenty of promising signs with the bat as Muneeba Ali, Omaima Sohail and Ayesha Naseem have found the bouncy Australian pitches to their liking.

And Bismah expects conditions in South Africa for the T20 World Cup to be very similar to what they experienced in Australia and that should bode well for her side during the three-week event.

"The pitches in South Africa are likely to be of the same nature as we got in Australia," Bismah noted in her column for the ICC.

"The series against Australia is going to help us a lot to prepare ourselves well for the marquee event.

"The preparation for the mega event is going in the right direction with our side playing against the top team Australia at their own backyard.

"The series provided the players a great opportunity to prepare themselves and express their talent in the forthcoming event."

The preparations in Australia haven't all gone to plan for Pakistan, with experienced quick Diana Baig hurting her finger during the ODI component of the tour and already ruled out of the T20 World Cup as a result.

While Bismah knows how important Baig is to the Pakistan side, the veteran captain believes the absence of the right-armer will provide opportunities for other bowlers to show their wares.

"We have other players in the squad looking forward to grabbing the opportunity... and our team has performed well in the last quarter of the past year," Bismah said.

"We have players like Tuba Hassan, Nida Dar, Sidra Amin – all winning ICC Player of the Month awards last year and they are looking ahead to give the same performances in the upcoming event."

Pakistan are drawn alongside England, India, Ireland and the West Indies for the T20 World Cup and require a top two finish in the group to qualify for the semi-finals.

Their first match of the group stage comes against arch-rival India in Cape Town on February 12.
