🧾 Get a Copy of Your Tax Slips
If you need a copy of your tax information slips (such as T4, T5, T3, and others) for your Canadian income tax return, here’s how you can get them — either online through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) or directly from the issuer.
📌 What Are Tax Slips?
Tax slips report amounts of income or other tax‑related information you received during a tax year. Common slips include:
- T4 – Employment income
- T5 – Investment income
- T3 – Trust income
- T2202 – Tuition
- RRSP and other contribution receipts
These slips are essential when completing your tax return to report income and claim related deductions/credits.
📥 How to Get Your Tax Slips
1. Ask the Issuer First
Tax slips are prepared and sent by your employer, financial institution, payer or plan administrator. If you haven’t received a slip or it’s lost, first ask the issuer for a replacement copy. They are legally required to provide it.
2. View Online via CRA My Account
If the issuer has sent the slip to the CRA, you may be able to view and download it through your secure My Account portal on the CRA website — including current and past years.
3. Estimate and Explain if Necessary
If you can’t get the slip in time to file your return, estimate the income using pay stubs or statements, and attach a note to your paper return explaining what you’re doing to get the official slip.
📅 Timing of Slips
Most common tax slips (like T4, T4A and T5) are usually issued by the end of February following the calendar year they relate to, while T3 and T5013 slips may not be issued until the end of March.
📌 Filing with Missing Slips
If the slip isn’t available yet, don’t delay filing your return. You can use your best estimate and include supporting documentation (pay stubs, statements) with your return. If CRA later requests the slip, you can provide it then.
