Form AUT-01 – Authorize a Representative for Offline Access (CRA)
Form AUT-01 is used to give someone permission to act as your representative with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for offline access by phone, mail, fax or in person to your tax, benefit, trust, or business accounts. Download the fillable PDF and instructions here. (Canada.ca – AUT-01 form)
What Is Form AUT-01?
The Authorize a Representative for Offline Access form (Form AUT-01) allows an individual or business to authorize a representative to act on their behalf with the CRA for certain types of account access not done online. The representative can communicate with the CRA by telephone, fax, mail or in person using this authorization. The form must be downloaded and filled out according to instructions.
When to Use This Form
Use Form AUT-01 when you want a trusted individual to handle your communications with the CRA offline. Typical situations include when the representative does not have online access or when you choose not to authorize online access via the “Represent a Client” service.
How to Get and Complete the Form
You must download the form and open it with Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 10 or later) to complete it. Several formats are available:
- Accessible fillable PDF – fill on your computer using Acrobat Reader
- Standard print PDF – print and complete by hand
- Large print PDF – for improved readability
- E-text format – suitable for screen readers
Submission and Mailing Details
After completing and signing the form, send it to your appropriate CRA tax centre. Offline access authorization is valid for the representative to contact the CRA about your accounts by mail, phone or fax. Contact details for CRA tax centres are available on the official CRA contact page.
What Offline Access Means
Offline access authorized by Form AUT-01 is different from online access through “Represent a Client”. It allows your representative to:
- Call CRA on your behalf using information in the form
- Send or receive documents with the CRA via mail or fax
- Visit a CRA office in person to inquire about your accounts
It does not automatically grant online access via My Account, My Business Account, or Represent a Client.
Canceling or Changing Authorization
To cancel an existing offline authorization, use the related cancellation form (Form AUT-01X) or update your representative access through the appropriate CRA services.
