🏦 CRA Direct Deposit for Businesses – Get Payments Directly
Direct deposit allows your business to receive payments from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) directly into a Canadian bank account. This is faster, secure and avoids mail delays for cheques, ensuring refunds or other payments arrive reliably.
💼 Why Sign Up for Direct Deposit?
- 📬 Avoid waiting for mailed cheques.
- ⚡ Receive payments quicker and securely.
- 💡 Reduce administrative delays and errors.
- 📊 Convenient way to get tax refunds, GST/HST rebates and remittances.
Most CRA payments are eligible for direct deposit, including corporation tax refunds, payroll deductions refunds, GST/HST refunds and more.
📌 What You Need to Sign Up
Before enrolling your business for direct deposit with the CRA:
- ✔ A Canadian bank account
- ✔ Banking information (transit, institution and account numbers, often found on a cheque)
- ✔ A 15‑digit CRA program account number (e.g. RC for corporation tax, RP for payroll) depending on which payments you are setting up.
The CRA program account number identifies which payment types your direct deposit applies to.

1. Through Your CRA Business Account
Sign in to your CRA account and:
- Select your Business Account.

- Select Manage direct deposit and update your information.
Make sure you keep your old bank account open until the first direct deposit to the new account is successful.

Each bank may have a slightly different process — check your institution’s online banking or branch for direct deposit enrolment options.
🔄 Updating Your Direct Deposit Info
If your business changes its bank account, you can update direct deposit information both in your CRA business account online and through a Canadian bank or credit union.
Do not close the old bank account until the first payment is successfully deposited to the new account.
🔒 Protecting Your Banking Info
Banking information is collected under Canadian privacy laws and used only to administer direct deposit payments. The CRA protects this data under the Privacy Act, and businesses have rights to access, correct or add a notation on their personal information.
