📄 Access to Information & Personal Information Requests – How to Apply

This page explains how to make a formal request under the Access to Information Act or the Privacy Act to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). These requests help you obtain government records not already accessible through CRA services.

👥 Who Can Make a Request

Eligible requestors include:

  • Canadian citizens
  • Permanent residents of Canada
  • Individuals or corporations currently in Canada
  • Individuals outside Canada (Privacy Act only)

Before submitting, check if the information is already available through CRA’s digital services like My Account or by calling 1‑800‑959‑8281.

📋 What You Need to Include

The requirements vary by request type:

  • Privacy Act requests (for personal info about yourself): two pieces of valid ID (with at least one photo), your SIN if tax‑related, a detailed description of the information, and a date range if relevant. Cross consent may be required for third‑party data.
