Interac® Verification Service for My Service Canada Account (MSCA)
The Interac® verification service is a secure online identity verification option you can use when registering for a My Service Canada Account (MSCA). It lets you instantly verify your identity using your existing online banking login with a participating financial institution, so you don’t have to wait for a mailed Personal Access Code (PAC). This speeds up your access to your federal benefit and tax information.
📌 Why Use Interac® Verification?
- Instant identity verification — no waiting for mail delivery of a PAC.
- Secure process — your banking login details are not accessed or stored by the verification service.
- One‑time action — once your identity is verified, you won’t need to repeat the process for MSCA registration.
💳 How It Works
To use the Interac® verification service:
- Start MSCA registration and choose the Interac® verification option when prompted.
- Select your participating financial institution.
- Log in with your online banking credentials for that institution.
- Consent to securely share verified personal details needed to confirm your identity.
- After verification, you’ll be redirected back to finish registration.
This process uses strong encryption and security protocols; your credentials are handled only by your financial institution, not by the government service.
🏦 Participating Financial Institutions
You must have an active online banking login with one of the participating institutions to use this option. As of the latest information, eligible participants include:
- BMO
- CIBC
- Desjardins
- Envision Financial
- Island Savings
- Prospera Credit Union
- RBC
- Scotiabank
- TD
- Valley First
If your bank or credit union is not listed, you can still register using the PAC method (mailed code).
📄 Alternative: Personal Access Code (PAC)
If you can’t use the Interac® verification service, you can request a PAC from Service Canada. It is mailed to you and may take up to 5–10 business days to arrive. Once you receive it, you use it to complete MSCA registration.
🔐 Security and Privacy
The Interac® verification process does not give the government access to your online banking login information, and personal banking credentials are never stored or shared with MSCA. The service only confirms identity details you consent to share.
📍 Helpful Tips
- If you don’t have online banking with a participating institution, you can use the PAC option.
- If you get errors or issues with Interac® verification, try another participating bank or use the PAC method. User experiences show sometimes it may fail and require alternative verification.
- Your verified MSCA access allows you to manage EI, CPP, OAS and other federal benefit accounts securely.
