How to Uninstall Office for Mac

This official Microsoft Support article explains how to completely uninstall Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 apps from a Mac, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote. You need to be an administrator on the Mac or supply an administrator name and password to complete the uninstall. Step 1 – Remove Office Applications

Step 2 – Remove User Library Files

3. Open the Containers folder and move the following (if present) to Trash: Microsoft Error Reporting, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft OneNote, and related com.microsoft.* folders. Outlook data will be lost if these folders are removed so back them up first. Step 3 – Remove from Dock and Restart

⚠️ Notes and Tips

  • Uninstalling Office this way removes the apps but not personal data you chose to keep; back up important data first (Outlook mail, templates, etc).
  • After uninstalling, you can reinstall Office from your Microsoft account portal: office.com.
  • If you want a more thorough cleanup (removing leftover update utilities like Microsoft AutoUpdate), check for additional folders under ~/Library/Group Containers and related preference folders.
