Brian Windhorst: “Some Of These Guys Do Not Like James Harden.”

James Harden is one of the NBA’s best players. But his playstyle, although effective, isn’t one that stomachs well with a lot within the NBA community.

He often scores by manipulating the refs into calling fouls that aren’t necessarily committed against him. He’s the league’s top free-throw shooter, attempting over 11 per game and draining them at an 87% rate.

So far, he’s single-handedly leading the Rockets to the postseason while once again keeping himself in the MVP conversation. It’s a strat that often gets him a ton of criticism though, and players are hating him because of it.

“Some of these guys do not like James Harden … some were like well he gets every call from the refs…”

It’s no mystery that Harden can score in a myriad of ways. He doesn’t necessarily need to manipulate the officiating to get points on the board. People argue that it creates an unfair advantage and takes the fun out of the game. They would argue it’s a weak man’s tactic.

But if the opportunity is there, why not take advantage of it? It takes skill to draw fouls the way Harden does. And while nobody does it at the rate he does, every player has tried.

So, love him or hate him, there’s no stopping Harden from getting to the line.
